How To Boost Your Confidence In 5 Ways At Once

Confidence can be defined in several ways, but we all know what confidence means to us, and in which areas of life we want more confidence. The definition of confidence is;

‘A feeling of self-assurance arising from an appreciation of one’s own abilities or qualities’

Meaning, that we can rely on ourselves and our own skills to either get the job, win the match, ask someone one a date or pass the exam.

What about self-confidence?

Self-confidence is depends on a combination of good physical health, emotional/mental health and social health. It is very hard to feel good about yourself if you hate how you look or are constantly low in energy.

 

This means there are multiple routes you can take to improve your overall confidence and you can do them all at once for even better results!

  • Skill Acquisition / Practice – Neurology
  • Physical and Mental health  – Biochemistry
  • Removing Past issues or phobias – Psychology
  • Visualization – Hypnosis / Meditation
  • Mindset – Affirmation /   Self talk

Confidence to do something

If your lack of confidence is at a particular skill or you do not feel prepared, then put very simply this would mean you need to find a way to practice more or practice more efficiently. To give you a few examples.

This could be by improving your time management, getting a coach or a different coach to help you, using neurological performance training to increase your threshold to fatigue and speed up how quickly you learn new skills (drive neuroplasticity) or supplements, including nootropics (smart drugs) to improve focus during practice and memory.

Confidence in our mind and body

Physical health and appearance of course will affect your confidence as if you think you look great you will act differently. Even though this appears shallow, our brains make a judgement subconsciously in a few seconds when we meet people and we cannot change millions of years of evolution.

However we can change our life style, diet, exercise routine or supplement routine in order to look our best. Some people are just simply making the wrong choices because they do not understand biochemistry or their own genetics, as we are all slightly different and respond in different ways to our environment. Having balanced hormones, brain chemistry and blood sugar is key for mood stability, resilience, calmness, cognition  and focus, all of which are elements of confidence.

Mental health on a biological level is similar to physical health, if your brain is inflamed or stressed out then this is going to have a huge impact on your emotions, motivation and energy levels. Very briefly, to keep your brain biochemically healthy there are anti-nutrients like high fructose corn syrup and toxins like lead  which you need to avoid to keep your brain healthy.

You also need to make sure your body is producing plenty of glutathione, which is your 1# detoxification molecule. Low levels of glutathione are usually present in  neurological conditions like brain-fog, dementia, memory issues, Parkinson’s and more.

Lost confidence and phobias

A lack of confidence or a phobia can very often result from a negative past experience where you might have been humiliated, told you were useless,  hurt physically or hurt emotionally. There many different techniques and methods, like EMDR, Hypnosis or Kinetic Shift to re-process these past events so that they no longer affect your behavior or confidence, allowing you to move on and be a more confident version of yourself. It is a matter of experimenting and finding one which works for you.

The power of visualisation or mental rehearsing has been used for decades for all walks of performance from sport to stage. In part the unconscious mind doesn’t know what is real or imagined so the ability to mentally prepare has huge value.  Hypnosis is a powerful way to harness the unconscious mind and very useful for effective visualisation.

Talk yourself confident

How you speak to yourself is utterly critical as your inner self talk chatters away all day and If you are constantly criticizing yourself, you will very quickly build up the repetitions and enforce negative beliefs about yourself and your abilities. By building your mental resilience using some of the approaches you will find that unpleasant things which people say to you start to bounce off. In reality the amount of harsh words  people say to themselves is far greater than unkind words from other people. What you say to yourself really does matter and there are studies to back this up.

Affirmations are positive, empowering and uplifting statements that we say to ourselves. These are normally more effective if said out loud so that you can hear yourself say it. As I have said already we tend to believe whatever we tell ourselves constantly Our brains are biologically wired to seek answers to questions, without analysing  the question fully. To get your brain to accept your positive statements more effectively, phrase your affirmations as questions like, “Why am I so good at achieving my goals?” instead of “I am so good at achieving goals.”
